Several clinical studies have indicated that up to 75% of small animal patients are presented to veterinary practices for dermatological disorders.
Dermatology involves a wide range of skin and systemic diseases. A complete examination and diagnostic evaluation is very important for the animals comfort, treatment and management plan.
There are multiple steps involved in the diagnosis of dermatological conditions including:
- Coat brushing
- Skin scraping
- Tape impressions
- Trichograms
- Cytological examinations
- Biopsy
- Dermatophyte culture and PCR
- Wood’s lamp examination
- Bacterial culture
- Blood tests
- Allergy testing
