Pet Owners

What You Need to Know

Your pet must be referred to us via your own vet. This enables your vet and our clinicians to work together as a team to provide the best care for your pet.

The referral procedure is straightforward. Your vet may suggest a referral to Scottish Vet Referrals, or you may request one from your vet. Once your own vet has sent through your contact details and your pet’s medical history, we will phone you to arrange an appointment.

We appreciate that being referred on to another veterinary practice can often cause a lot of worry.  We will work hard to put you at ease every step of the way.

N

Prior to Arrival

You will have already spoken to one of the team to arrange an appointment time. We will have sent an email confirmation along with some information sheets regarding the consultation process, directions to the practice, pet insurance claims (if applicable) and payment methods.

N

Upon Arrival

When you arrive at Scottish Vet Referrals you will be welcomed into our relaxed and spacious waiting area.

In addition, the Inverness campus boasts over 30 acres of high quality parkland to walk your dogs or just stretch your legs.

N

Costs

Nobody enjoys talking about the cost of private veterinary care.  We will always give you a detailed estimate for treatment of your pet prior to commencing any treatment.  If the plan changes at any point and the costs are likely to change, we will keep you abreast of these changes (unless the situation is an emergency).  You will have already been sent an information sheet on our payment methods and pet insurance claims policies.

N

What to Bring

  • Your pet and yourselves
  • Any medications your pet currently receives
  • A completed and signed insurance form if applicable
N

The Consultation

Our clinicians will take you to one of our dedicated consulting rooms where your pet will be examined.  You will be key in the investigation process, so we set aside 30 minutes for the physical exam and to talk things over with you.

N

Prescriptions

Please be aware that we require 24 hours notice for all prescription requests. If you require more medication for your pet, please contact us via phone or by completing the online form here. Medication will only be dispensed between our normal opening hours.

N

After the Consultation

Sometimes we will need to admit your pet for further investigations or treatment. Our separate kennels and cattery with underfloor heating will ensure your pet is kept comfortable and warm.

Our Registered Veterinary Nurses will be with your pet every step of the way, and will treat them with the respect and care they would their own.

We offer a 24 hour Ophthalmology service
with hospitalisation facilities

Directions

On entering Inverness Campus, the big university building with a green roof is on your left. At the end of this road (150m) turn right and stay on this road (pedestrian priority again) for about 200m up a small hill. The practice is a blue building at the end of this road on the left. Car parking is at the back of the building.

Insurance

If your pet is insured, you must notify your insurance company that you have been referred to Scottish Vet Referrals. Please let us know 3 working days prior to your appointment if you would like us to submit a pre-authorisation on your behalf.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

You can find directions on where to find us here.

Can I come to you without being referred by my own vets?

In order to arrange an appointment with us we require a referral from your first opinion veterinary practice. You can contact them to arrange this.

Can my pet have breakfast?

If your pet is coming to see us for a consultation only they are allowed breakfast. If your pet is having a procedure please speak to a member of the team who will advise accordingly.

I have not yet been referred but would like an estimate of costs. How do I go about this?

Please arrange for your first opinion veterinary practice to send through a referral and we will contact you in due course. This allows us to review your pets medical history and provide a more accurate estimate. We are happy to provide this free of charge and this will not commit you to proceeding with treatment at Scottish Vet Referrals.

I am insured, how do I submit a claim?

Please bring a completed and signed claim form along with you on the day of your appointment and we can arrange for the fees to be reimbursed to you. Payment will be required on the day of the appointment unless a pre-authorisation has been arranged with Scottish Vet Referrals.

My pet requires emergency attention. What should I do?

Initially, we recommend contacting your first opinion practice for advice. We do provide a 24 hour Ophthalmology service.
